Factsheet 7 – Typical Sales Agent Profiles

Agents are typically male. Females are very rare: perhaps only 5% to 10% of agents are female.

Agents are typically aged 40-70, with the average around 55. Only a few agents are in their 30’s and fewer still in their 20’s. Many are well into their 60’s and 70’s.

Typically, they are ex-sales professionals. Some may have risen to managerial positions, and a few will have been at director level.

But not always: agents come from many walks of life. It is extremely difficult to generalise about sales agents. A roomful of sales agents will consist of a very varied and colourful mixture of people from all backgrounds.

Working with sales agents can be an ideal way to grow a business or launch a new product with minimal costs. Often sales agents are the most cost-effective, quickest and lowest risk route to market. They may also simply be the best strategy when trying to open up new markets, where pre-existing customer relationships are key.
